Candidate Statement

Lios enchim aniavu,

Inepo Thomas J. Cupis tea. In Achai Joseph Cupis tea. In Ae Dorothy Robinson tea. In Havoi Johnny Cupis Sr. teakan. In Haaka Tina Rico tea. In Apa John Shosie tea. In Asu Sophia Perez teakan.

I have worked for the Tribe as a project manager for the Itom Ili Tosapo Am Remtituane (Early Childhood Learning Center) for two years, contributing to the betterment of the community. Before that, I taught at Baboquivari High School for five years as a science and engineering teacher. My experiences have given me valuable lessons on youth and community engagement and education; proper governance and leadership; and the challenges and complexity of coordinating multi-million dollar projects and programs.

I understand both the difficulties faced by the tribal government and the advances it has made. I will work to improve our education system and revitalize the Hiaki language. I will strive to improve transparency throughout the organization. I will promote election reform by setting term limits and advocate for the Chairmen and the Vice Chairmen to be appointed by the popular vote. I will encourage voter outreach. Lastly, I will promote equitable distribution of resources and funding for all Yaqui communities.

I humbly ask for your support in the upcoming tribal elections on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.

We do not wait for a better future, we create the change we desire as a community.
